Adoption Stats According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and births in the western industrialized world. Teen pregnancy costs the United States at least $7 billion annually. Just under 1/3 of all girls in the United States will become pregnant in their teenage years. Simply put, teen pregnancy is a problem in the United States. Every year around 750,000 teenagers will get pregnant and unmarried teenagers having children account for 24 percent of all unmarried expectant mothers. More than 2/3 of all teenagers who have a baby will not graduate from high school.

Drug and Alcohol Stats
2.6 million infants each year are prenatally exposed to alcohol. (Gomby and Shiono, 1991)
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) affects between 1.3 and 2.2. children per 1,000 live births in North America each year. (Streissguth and Guiunta, 1998: US DHHS, 1990)
Cases of Alcohol related birth deffects outnnumber cdases of FAS by a ration of 2 to 3 to 1. (Abel and Dintcheff, 1984; Streissguth and Guiunta, 1988)
Each year, 11% of all newborns, or 459,690, are exposed to illicit drugs (Chasnoff, 1989)
More than 739,000 women each year use one or more illicit drugs during pregnancy. (Gomby and Shiono, 1991)
Teen Sex Stats
Nearly half (46%) of all 15-19 year-olds in the United States have had sex at least once.
By age 15, only 13% of teens have ever had sex. However by the time they reach 19, 7 out of 10 teens had engaged in sexual intercourse.
Most young people have sex for the first time around age 17, but do not marry until their middle or late 20's. This means that young adults are at risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) for nearly a decade.

Number of women who've ever used infertility services: 9.2 million
Number of married couples that are infertile: 2.1 million
