I, like so many other parents, found myself in a position that did not allow me to take care of my children the way they deserved. I had 4 children and 1 more on the way, I was homeless, unemployed and desperate. I was out of options! Through a family friend I found an adoptive family. They were wonderful! That family already had 2 children and were looking for 2 more, siblings. I was placing 3 children for adoption. They took them all. They agreed to an open adoption and I couldn’t have asked for a better situation.
I know that it’s a scary and heartbreaking decision to make, but when you know that your child can be with a family that can give them so much love, completness, and stability. Well, that’s an amazing feeling.
Not all families looking to adopt will be willing to do an open adoption. Not all mothers looking to place children for adoption will want an open adoption.
I hope that by telling my story to other mothers that are in a similar situation that I was. I can help them feel better about the decision to place their child for adoption. There are so many families that can do so much for your child.
If you’re unsure, talk to someone. You don’t have to make the decision right then, but you will be able to make an informed decision. That’s the most important thing.
